Understanding the Qualifications at the Indianapolis 500

The Indianapolis 500 is a very popular race that occurs each year. Many people from around the world come to see the many racers that participate in the Indianapolis 500. There are many facts and figures surrounding the Indianapolis 500. One of the things that people often have questions about when it comes to the Indianapolis 500 has to do with the qualifications. Here, you will find the qualifications of the Indianapolis 500 explained.

Drivers from all around the country come to the Indianapolis 500 in hopes to win the race. Prior to the start of the race, the drivers must participate in a number of activities. The first activity is that of qualifications. Each driver is permitted to participate in numerous activities that are timed. The time that the driver receives in these activities are extremely important. Each driver is carefully monitored and then, based on the time that they received during a certain trial, placed at certain locations for the start of the race. For example, the driver that made the best time on this activity will start close to the front. This increases that driver’s potential to win the Indianapolis 500.

There is normally a random drawing held in order to determine which driver will start the qualifications and which driver will qualify following that driver. This continues until there are no more drivers left to qualify. This can be a long procedure. One of the main reasons that this can take so long is that many drivers will want to qualify more than one vehicle. Normally, a race driver may try to qualify up to two different vehicles. However, there have been cases where a driver has qualified more than the standard two vehicles.

The drivers of the various vehicles may participate in the qualifying event up to a total of three different times with each of the vehicles that they are attempting to qualify. Once a driver has reached the maximum number of attempts in order to qualify their vehicle, the total time and speed that the particular driver performed at is recorded. That record is set as official and that driver must take the stance to the starting line of the race at that value.

There are numerous days that the qualifications take place. The actual start of qualifying starts exactly two weeks from the start date of the official Indianapolis 500. People may observe these qualifying races if they like. Often, the results are made public so that people may know who qualified and what position that they will be at the starting line. This is a very important procedure for both the drivers and the fans of the drivers of the Indianapolis 500.

Many people are not familiar with qualifications, but for the Indianapolis 500 fan, this is one of the most important aspects of the entire race!
